September 22 at 6:30 am, sunrise on the west coast US, the Sun enters the sign of Libra. Let’s not rush to Libra season though. Use this last week of Virgo love to tie up those loose ends, work diligently on your service, do thorough research and get your new routines settled in.
September 28 at 6 pm, Venus finally completes its trine to Mars that was never completed back in April. I am highlighting this transit because of the rare symbolism of an aspect getting so close to completion, within 1 degree, but not ever actually completing it because one of the planets, in this case Venus, turns retrograde. In April, Venus and Mars danced all month long in tight trine, from Gemini to Aquarius, only for Venus to slow down, stop & reverse, never perfecting the aspect.
To traditional astrologers this could symbolize the delaying of one’s dreams or dashing of one’s hopes. Something we hoped for or really thought was going to happen or work out for us, something important, does not. This was around the time that many events were being cancelled. We were told “two weeks to flatten the curve” and for everything to be shut down and cancelled in early March. We really thought and hoped that by April and May, everything would be back on and our April and May events and travel plans would not need to be cancelled. Then by mid-April it became clear that everything was cancelled.
Personally, something I had been looking forward to for almost an entire year got cancelled. I had won a scholarship to participate in OPA’s (Organization for Professional Astrologers) annual retreat in Zion, Utah. It was not only an opportunity to go to my first international astrology retreat or conference, it was my once a year opportunity to take a trip by myself and immerse myself in nature. I was quite depressed at its cancellation.
I know I am not the only one that had similar stories, BUT the good news is, that I think Venus finally catching up to complete a trine with Mars, this time from fiery Leo to Aries, signals the return of some of our hopes and revitalization of some of our dreams and inspiration. We may not get to do exactly what we had hoped to do in April or May, but something related to what we lost or was delayed then, is coming around. If even just our spirits finally healing from the blow in some way.
This symbolism is reinforced by the symbolism of Jupiter, the Great Benefic, reversing its annual retrograde motion to turn direct on September 12. Jupiter will spend the next few weeks picking up speed and with it, getting our hopes, dreams and wishes moving again. Jupiter is the planet most associated with Faith, religious traditions, philosophy, world travel, culture, The People, and the law. Jupiter still happens to be in a sign considered “unlucky” for it’s particular symbolism, so I don’t expect everything to fully open up and expand again with it’s forward motion, but perhaps our spirits and reasons to hope will rise somehow.
I know I am very much looking forward to watching Jupiter in the night sky as it slowly moves to finally catch up with Saturn over the course of the next few months until their Great Conjunction in December. Great Conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn only occur once every 40 years. Jupiter and Saturn are both brightly visible high in the night sky, and have been all year. Jupiter is the much brighter of the two and currently just to the west of Saturn; Jupiter will be seen to get closer and closer now that it is moving direct again.
If you happen to be in dark sky country, you can see our Milky Way Galaxy, and the Galactic Center, just to the west of Jupiter through November. By the end of November, the Milky Way, Jupiter and Saturn will all set shortly after sunset.
Swift-footed Mercury will be zooming past us earthlings for the first time this solar and lunar new year so far. Here's what you might find happening around you or coming to you naturally and some suggestions regarding where your focus of learning and thinking and organizing might be over the course of the next few weeks as well as some rad book recommendations for each sign!
For everyone, Mercury retrograde is generally seen as a time to avoid signing contracts or buying new cars or electronics and if you must do these things, expect delays and revisions and having to go back over and redo things. For everyone it is generally recommended as an excellent time to organize & backup important files, catch up on correspondence, pay extra attention to how well you are communicating and what you are communicating. For this particular retrograde, there is a strong Neptunian influence, suggesting taking care to not be deceived and not make big decisions until it is over.
Another great way to spend time this Mercury Rx in Pisces is attending my online astrology meetup, Snax & Relax, on Saturday February 22nd. The theme of this one is Dreams & Astrology!
The official dates of the retrograde are Feb 16, 2020-March 10, 2020 but a lot of this will have maybe started early in February and will last well through March.
Aquarius rising and sun natives, your planet, Saturn, takes 29 years to go around the zodiac, compared to the sun taking a year and the moon taking 29 days only to go around the entire zodiac. So Saturn spends 2-3 years in each sign. It's been in Capricorn for over 2 years now. What does this mean for you? Well it means Saturn has been in your solar 12th house since December 2017. The 12th house is traditionally seen as a place of isolation. This can range from the kind of isolation of monks in a monastery, to stay-at-home parent type isolation or prisoners in solitary confinement and all kinds of fun ways in between. Traditionally the 12th house is also associated with institutions. Institutions can be many things but usually we think of hospitals, schools, jails and churches.
Maybe you have had some particularly real (Saturn) experiences in those places these past two years, maybe you felt restrained or weighed down by these places or maybe they provided you with structure (Saturn) in a time otherwise easy to get lost in (12th H).
Something important to note about Saturn in the 12th though, is that it means it will be crossing into your 1st house soon (By Dec 2020 it will be there for good but it will dip it's toe in for a few months earlier in 2020).
Saturn's cycle around the chart is sometimes associated with our career cycle. When Saturn is at the top of the chart (10th H), we may be peaking in some way in our current career of choice or some kinds of goals or aspirations we had been working on. This would have been between 2013-2015 for ♒.
Then as Saturn begins to drop into the 12th house, our attachment to that cycle and that career, starts to lessen. Or maybe you just change what you do within the same general field. Maybe you've been a rock star and you start making movies. Or maybe it's something like we might realize it's not quite time to change lanes, or retire, but you know it's coming. Maybe you have retired, thinking it was the end, but have kept working anyways. Now though, now you're really at the end. The 12th house is the end. 2020 is Saturn's last year here for ♒.
When Saturn moves into your 1st house for good in December, it will be the beginning of a new beginning for you, especially related to where your authority lies, where your sense of duty lies, and your career and reputation in general. You might not know exactly where your new path is yet, but it will be starting to take shape over the course of the next 7 years (2021-2027).
Then over the course of the next 7 years, 2028-2034, your new craft will be honed and refined and when Saturn moves above the horizon into your 7th, you will begin to become known as an authority figure in your field & gain recognition or authority in whatever you do or aspire to. 7 years later, you'll be peaking again! Fun right?!
If you are rather new on your current path anyways, or for example maybe you are a teenager, maybe what you've been thinking for awhile now that you would like to aspire to some specific career or life path but I can see the possibility of you making a big change to those ideas and plans come 2021.
That's all for now! Be sure to check out my latest news and events on the home page. As of the writing of this, the next event I am hosting is my online meetup, Snax & Relax, on Saturday February 22 near the New Moon in Pisces and we will be discussing the Astrology of Dreams.
